The wife of a Chelsea football fan, who recently celebrated 40 years of marriage, said being a football widow helped the couple to many happy year of matrimony.
Anita and John Parmenter celebrated their ruby wedding anniversary last month with a celebratory tea at the Savoy and will embark on a six-day trip to New York.
Mrs Parmenter, 64, said her 62-year-old husband’s love of Chelsea Football Club was something she learnt to deal with.
She said: “It’s give and take. I’m not a football fan but I support Chelsea through my family.”
The couple met in the Dysart Arms, Petersham in 1971 and married on September 15, 1973, at St Thomas Aquinas in Ham.
They had three children, John, Liam and Lucy, and two grandchildren from their eldest son, 35-year-old John.
Mrs Parmenter said: “I feel like the years have just flown by. I feel as if we only got married yesterday.
“To enjoy every single day is just wonderful and thank goodness we have got our health and three lovely children and two grandchildren.”
