Plans for a new multi-use sports facility in Hampton Hill were scrapped after opposition.

Richmond Council consulted residents over plans to install the multi-use games area, which would have provided year round football and basketball, in Holly Road recreation ground.

It would have been located to the rear of the site beside the play area.

Richmond councillor Virginia Morris said: “We are a listening council and because there has been strong opposition to these plans from our residents we will no longer pursue this idea.

“Although Hampton Hill is in need of more activities for children and young people, it is of vital importance that we allow our residents to shape services, which is exactly what we have done in this case.”
