Fundraising efforts for a much-loved pony that had to have an emergency operation have topped £2,000.

The Friends of Park Lane Stables in Teddington organised a party in aid of 16-year-old Trigger, who underwent surgery on his right foreleg to relieve severe pain and discomfort.

The event at the Bloated Mallard in Hampton Hill included pony rides, bouncy castle, face painting and the sale of the Pony Club's painted horseshoes on Sunday, September 22.

Natalie O’Rourke, owner and manager of Park Lane Stables, said: “I was bowled over by the response and the generosity of all of Trigger’s friends young and old.

“It’s such an amazing result. We’ve raised two thirds of the costs of Trigger’s emergency operation in just over two weeks thanks to the fantastic generosity of his fans, the Pony Club, guests at Sunday’s party and businesses right across the borough, from Kew, Richmond, Teddington, Strawberry Hill, to Hampton Hill and Hampton.

“I’m glad to say that Trigger is well on the road to recovery and his retirement with us. Over the years he’s helped raise thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes.”

Pony club members have also organised a clothes sale and others are taking part in sponsored runs to help to raise funds for the popular pony.
