Audiences will be transported back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up and shoulder pads were in, for a production of the Wedding Singer.

Based on the hit Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore 1998 movie, the live theatre production will tell the tale of 1985 rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart, who is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer.

He is the life of the party until his fiancée leaves him at the altar and he starts to make every wedding as disastrous as his own until a winsome waitress, Julia, wins his affection.

But she is about to be married to a Wall Street shark and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.

The show features an original score that captures the essence of the 1980s performed by Twickenham Operatic Society (Tops).

Tops comprises a group of people of all ages and backgrounds with a passion for musical theatre who have put on 84 shows since 1927 around the borough.

President of Tops Gill Wade says: “Now for the first time, after a summer of intensive rehearsals we travel to Hampton to the playhouse and everyone in Tops is very excited to appear in a venue that will be a first for them.

“Hopefully it will be the first of many visits to the lovely theatre in Hampton Hill High Street where they have been made to feel so welcome.”
