A group of teens are cycling almost 1,000km to Barcelona to raise money for a charity that supports street children around the world.
Hampton School pupils Alastair Holder Ross, James Mann, Chris Painter, Jack Congdon, Max Bason and Giles Lawrence set-off from Hampton on August 20, on their trek to raise money for StreetInvest.
They were inspired to cycle for the charity after working with campaigners who visited the school as part of its chosen charity for the term.
Mr Holder Ross said: “We all wanted to do our bit for the charity and this summer seemed like the best opportunity as we have all got about four months of space to fill after finishing our A-levels.”
The boys and their support team will cycle over 14 days, doing about 70 miles per day, arriving in Barcelona on September 3.
The boys are also dedicating their cycle to former headteacher at Hampton School, Barry Martin, who Mr Holder Ross said was really supportive of StreetInvest.
Mr Holder Ross said: “The fact that he was leaving now we thought we just wanted to say thank you for everything and for helping us.”
Through the cycle they aimed to raise more than £10,000, which is enough to keep either the team of 12 street workers in Sierra Leone going for a year, train a global trainer and 20 new street workers in India, or establish the world’s first UK university validated certificate of higher education in international street work.
The boys have smashed their target, but would love to raise as much as possible.
