The next phase of improvements to Twickenham Riverside is set to begin next month, featuring new trees and landscaping.
Riverside land in front of the Diamond Jubilee Gardens, which lay derelict for decades, will be landscaped under Richmond Council’s latest plans for redevelopment.
The improvements to the western side of the embankment will include resurfacing, new street furniture and improved lighting.
The 21-week improvement project as part of the Twickenham embankment upgrade scheme, will begin on September 30.
The work is part of the Twickenham Area Action Plan which sets out an overall strategy for the future of Twickenham town centre.
Eight horse chestnut trees, which have become infected and are destroying pathways and planters, will be removed and replaced.
Cabinet member for environment and planning Councillor Virginia Morris said: “We promised our residents that we would do everything in our power to open the Riverside and it has become the jewel in the crown of this borough.
“The site had been derelict for many years before the Jubilee Gardens was developed and work to the eastern side of Twickenham Embankment completed in 2009.
“The improvements to the Western side of the embankment will bring all three projects together and I’m certain even more residents and tourists alike will flock to the area as a result.”
The regeneration scheme includes:
• Six crossings over the road leading to the Riverside Walkway
• Seven new flower beds to include perennials, grasses and box hedge
• New street lighting and park furniture to link the eastern embankment with Diamond Jubilee Gardens
• Use of York Stone, heritage gravel, and Staffordshire blue pavers
