A Twickenham mum, hoping to give Gareth Malone a run for his money, is searching for mums to join her choir.
Mother-of-two Charlotte Jordan launched Up Beat after leaving her job of eight years as head of academic music at Hampton Independent Boys School, to devote more time to her family.
She said: “Music is something you can’t just put away. The creation of Up Beat has given me the perfect set up – time at home with the kids combined with the enjoyment of coaching a choir and delivering concerts.”
Like the Military Wives Choir, some of those who have joined Up Beat had never sung in a choir before.
Choir member Jane Cronwright-Brown said: “I can’t read music but it doesn’t matter as Charlotte is a great choir mistress. We have lots of fun, sing a wide range of songs and I’ve met some brilliant new people.”
The choir covers all styles of music from musical theatre to pop classics ranging from Les Miserables to Jessie J’s Price Tag and Abba’s Mamma Mia. Also, singing can even be as good for your heart as yoga and can improve snoring.
Up Beat, which meets on Thursdays, is currently welcoming new members for the start of term in September.
