A new illuminated fountain has been causing a splash in Hampton.

Water jets set in York stone, which are programmed to shoot water at various heights throughout the day, are the latest instalment of Richmond Council’s Hampton Square uplift rejuvenation project.

Richmond’s cabinet member for environment, Councillor Virginia Morris, visited the new water feature between Sainsbury’s, the Hampton Youth Project and All Saints Church on Friday, August 16.

She said: “I am really pleased that we have managed to open the water feature in time for the summer holidays.

“For too many years this site has been under utilised and undeveloped.

“We plan to make it a real community space, a place where families can stop and relax and children can play.

“In less than two months we plan to unveil the rest of the square – with new planting, grassed open space and benches.

“I look forward to seeing the community market and other local groups and organisations utilise the area to bring back the heart of this community.”

Work on the new village square is due to be completed by early September.
