A free workshop for young people, in celebration of the Eel Pie Club as a music and cultural venue in the 50s and 60s, will be held this weekend.
The Making Music: Make Your Own Musical Instrument workshop will be held for 12 to 16 year olds and is being led by professional cross-discipline artist Amy Pennington.
Project manager for the Eel Pie Island Project Sue Palmer says: “We chose to run this event for young people, as an interesting part of the music history of Eel Pie Island is the Skiffle movement.
“The Skiffle movement was all about people making their own instruments, or adapting objects to create sounds. In the exhibition we have a special section with homemade instruments, such as a cigar box guitar and a tea chest bass, and want to encourage young people to make their own versions in a day.”
The Making Music: Make Your Own Musical Instrument workshop; Coach House, Orleans House Gallery, Riverside, Twickenham, Saturday, August 10, 10.30am to 4pm, free. Bring a packed lunch.
