Hundreds turned out to celebrate Teddington station’s 150th anniversary.

The major milestone was marked by a day of events at the station in Victoria Road and at the nearby Park Hill Hotel, which shares the same anniversary of Sunday, June 30.

Alan Hopgood, made an MBE in 2010 for his work at Teddington station, is a member of the Teddington Society and dressed in authentic Victorian costume for the day.

About 2,000 people joined in the celebrations, which included a model steam railway at the St John Ambulance Hall, music from the Salvation Army band and pony rides by Park Lane stables.

John Demont, vice-president of the Teddington Society, and Twickenham MP Vince Cable unveiled a commemorative plaque in the station’s booking hall.

The station was granted Grade II listed status last year because of its special architectural and historic interest.

The 1863 branch line was Britain’s first suburban railway network on a mainline railway, created to provide commuter services to London’s expanding western suburbs.Richmond and Twickenham Times:
