A Teddington teacher is tackling 15 charity runs that total 100km in memory of her mother who died from breast cancer last year.

Sinead Dunphy aims to complete 15 Race for Life events in aid of Cancer Research UK this year, and along the way will urge more women to take part to help in the battle against cancer.

She said: “When mum lost her battle with cancer, she was only 52. She’d fought the illness for five years and at one point we thought it had gone away for good. But it came back.

“When I saw the TV adverts and posters for Race for Life I signed up to take part because the way mum fought her illness really inspired me.

“She was fighting all the way and this was my way of doing something to show her I was fighting too.”

Sadly her mother, Caroline, died in May last year before the Southbank International School teacher completed her first 10km at Clapham Common.

She has gone on to raise more than £1,000 and is on target to double her fundraising efforts by completing events in Kingston, Richmond, Croydon, Basingstoke, Finsbury Park, Blackheath and Hyde Park.

She said: “I feel the Race for Life is something every woman should do at least once.

“It’s a really fantastic way of raising funds to ensure we have the tools we need to fight cancer so that young women like my mum should not die at such a young age.”
