A woman in her 20s was found dead in Twickenham this morning.
Police were called at 7am to reports of an unconscious female in the graveyard of St Mary’s Parish Church in Church Lane.
They cordoned off the area and put up a a crime scene tent.
Police and forensics were still on the scene this afternoon.
A police spokesman said: “Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a woman, believed aged in late 20s.
“She was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin not yet informed.
“The death is being treated as unexplained at this time and a postmortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
“Enquiries into the circumstances are under way and being carried out by officers from Richmond.”
A nearby workman who arrived in Church Lane at about 8.30am said: “We don’t know what happened, we just saw a load of police there and two ambulances.”
Shona Lyons, who works in nearby Crusader Travel, said there were about 10 to 12 police surrounding the graveyard this morning.
She said: “It is very unusual and definitely something that you do not expect.”
An LAS spokesman said: “We were called this morning at 7.06 to reports of a body found at St Mary’s Church in Church Lane.
“We sent a single responder in a car and one ambulance crew to the scene.
“Sadly one patient, a female, was dead at the scene.”
