Anyone considering taking part in the Pink Ribbonwalk this weekend still has the chance to sign up – and could even do some celebrity spotting.

The charity walk in aid of Breast Cancer Care will be held on June 15 in Twickenham’s Marble Hill Park, where participants can choose from a 10 or 20 mile walk.

Interior design guru Linda Barker will take on the 20-mile walk on the day, and hoped to encourage more people to join.

She said: “It’s not only a fantastic day out, which you can enjoy with family and friends, but it’s also a lovely way to raise money and make a difference to people affected by breast cancer.

“Breast Cancer Care provides free support and information to empower people to live with and beyond breast cancer, so please join me in doing something great this weekend.”

In the run-up to the event women from around the borough have shared their inspiring and heartfelt stories on their brushes with the disease.

A mother of three from Twickenham survived breast cancer twice, and wanted others to check themselves regularly.

Maggie Bradley, of Hampton Road, who is taking on the walk, first had breast cancer diagnosed when she was pregnant with her second child and then again six years later.

The 39-year-old said: “I was very lucky because I was not someone who checked my breasts regularly and I think the sooner you find something the sooner it is sorted out and the easier it is to treat, so there is a better chance of survival.”

The first Pink Ribbonwalk in the borough launched Twickenham’s Marble Hill Park last year and raised £205,327 for Breast Cancer Care.

The walk will follow a route that will pass Ham House, Teddington Lock, Bushy Park and Petersham Meadows and see views of Hampton Court Palace.
