Equestrians in Richmond Park will enjoy better and more picturesque riding after funds were raised by the community to improve facilities.
After a reduction in public funding in the past couple of years, the Royal Parks is tasked with raising more than half of its £32.4m annual budget each year.
About 2.5km of horse riding paths have been restored – the latest stretch by Martin’s Pond – after it was noticed it was too worn and eroded.
The worst of the rides have been restored after two large donations from individual park users and representatives from the park riders have agreed a scheme to raise £10,000-a-year to maintain them.
Adam Curtis, assistant manager of Richmond Park, said: “We are so very grateful to the local riders and community for their generosity to restore these wonderful horse rides.
“Their collective contribution will not only help the Royal Parks to further their maintenance budgets but the much-needed funds will help to further improve the rides, providing an excellent riding experience in Richmond Park – a true sign of community spirit in these difficult times.”
