A woman from Ireland celebrated her 100th birthday with a visit from traditional Irish dancers at her care home.

Bridget O’Shea, who has lived in the Greville House Care Home in Richmond for three years and is originally from Galway, was surrounded by friends and family when she celebrated her birthday on May 23.

The widowed centenarian said: “I had a lovely time and everyone was very good - it was lovely.

“I don’t know how I have lived so long, I can’t tell you that, but I didn’t have an easy life. We had a very big cake which was lovely.”

Activities co-ordinator at the care home Theresa O’Connell said Mrs O’Shea had a very enjoyable celebration and was happy to receive her card from the Queen, which she propped up on a side table.

She said: “Bridget had lots of family there. We had Irish dancers and it was absolutely beautiful, she couldn’t have been happier and she said it was the perfect way to spend her birthday.

“We always have a party to celebrate birthdays and it lasted all day and then her family had a private celebration in the dining room.”

Guests also enjoyed food, wine, cherry and a big cake during the day’s celebrations.
