A mosaic is to be fixed on the walls of the Sheen Lane Centre in tribute to the creator of the world wide web.
The Mortlake and East Sheen Society commissioned the artwork to celebrate the achievements of Sir Tim Berners-Lee, who was born and grew up in East Sheen and attended Sheen Mount Primary School.
The mosaic has been designed and created by local artist Sue Edkins and it bears the message ‘This is for everyone’.
Conservative Councillor Pamela Fleming said: “Sir Tim Berners-Lee attended a local school here and now he will be able to inspire current young pupils at the unveiling – showing them that anything is possible.”
The world wide web is a system of hyperlinked text documents that can be acessed via the internet.
Sir Tim will be in attendance at the ceremony, along with his family and the Leader of Richmond Council Lord True, at 11am on June 24. For more information, call Shaun Lamplough on 020 8876 6140.
