A Twickenham charity that supports victims of childhood sex abuse is calling on the community to help continue the vital support it provides.

Survivor Coffee Mornings launched via This Tangled Web 14 months ago and take place every fortnight in Twickenham.

However, due to the fast growing success of the unique service, the coffee mornings now have a waiting list.

Founder Kate Swift created This Tangled Web after an online peer to peer support group she had previously set up became popular and she thought bringing survivors together face-to-face could be equally beneficial.

Miss Swift said: “The official statistics for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (one in four women and one in six men) suggest we need to continue doing this and so much more.

“When you are abused in childhood, you are trapped in a silent world, but in a supportive environment people do not have to be silent any longer.”

Miss Swift is looking for companies or individuals who may be willing to help the charity continue offering support to survivors.

She said: “To date we have no external funding for the work we do and we have existed on donations, fundraising and goodwill.

“The charity believes a lot has been achieved with limited resources so far but much more could be achieved with the support of the wider community.”
