People are being urged to have their say on a new strategy to tackle alcohol and drug misuse.
The proposal by Richmond Council and the borough’s Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), lays out a number of measures to reduce the risk of substance misuse.
Preventative and supportive measures are suggested to tackle the issue, including alcohol screening, advice at GP surgeries and support for families where the parents’ drinking is affecting children.
The new plan also said people with alcohol and drug problems would have improved access to treatment, as well as support services including housing, benefits and education.
Councillor Nicola Urquhart, cabinet member for adult services, health and housing, said: “We may not think we have huge cause for concern in the borough, but substance abuse, especially alcohol abuse, which tends to lead antisocial behaviour and crime or abuse, is an issue and therefore we must not be complacent on this.”
Dr Dagmar Zeuner, director of public health at the council, said: “Through this consultation, residents will have a chance to see the figures for themselves and the suggested strategy for managing the situation going forward.”
The consultation is open until May 30. To take part, visit richmond.gov.uk/current_consultations.
