A couple who married in Twickenham during the Second World War celebrated their 70th anniversary this week.

Reginald and Berryl Edwards, both 87, married at Holy Trinity Church, just off Twickenham Green, when they were just 17.

Mr Edwards, who is better known in Twickenham by the last name of Frame, said: “It was every day you were losing loved ones, I think we decided that it was best to make hay while the sun’s shining.”

Mr and Mrs Edwards now live in Camberley, but returned to Twickenham, and the place they married, to look around the town on May 1.

Mr Edwards said: “We have come back before and, as it was 70 years, we wanted to come back to where it all started.”

The couple have passed on their wisdom of a happy marriage to their sons, Wayne Edwards and Kevin Edwards, who are both happily married - with Wayne having been married for 48 years.

Mr Edwards spoke about how he and Mrs Edwards have remained together for so long.

He said: “If we ever disagree any time I would let my wife think she was right, but sometimes she was not and when she found out she was not right, peace would resume.”

The couple, who have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, with another on the way, will celebrate with their family this weekend.
