More than 100 events and activities will be held to celebrate the numerous glorious gardens around the borough.

The Gardens Festival 2013, which also celebrates the borough’s important place in the history of garden design, will begin with the unveiling of a seminal exhibition at Orleans House Gallery.

The exhibition will include works celebrating Arcadian Vistas: Richmond’s English Landscape Gardens, which includes works from local and national galleries and collections.

The packed programme includes historic walks around Ham House and gardens, events at Marble Hill House and gardens, and the Big Picnic at Hampton Court Palace.

The festival has been launched by Richmond Council and will be delivered in partnership with local heritage, arts and horticultural organisations.

Councillor Pamela Fleming, Richmond Council cabinet member for community, business and culture, says: “Our parks and open spaces are what make Richmond such a desirable place to live and visit and history tells us that this has always been the case.

“This festival brings together all the key gardens and historic properties around the borough and celebrates their heritage."
