Richmond Council has corrected unofficial boundary changes between Strawberry Hill and Twickenham, after a successful protest from residents.
Strawberry Hill Residents’ Association (SHRA) was against the eradication of 16 roads recognised as Strawberry Hill within Richmond Council’s My Village plans, which were published following the All in One survey in 2010.
The boundaries were not officially altered and made no difference to planning or postal decisions, but were guidelines for the council to follow for community engagement.
Councillor Pamela Fleming said: “We have made it clear throughout that any resident who lives near the Strawberry Hill village is quite free to express their views on issues in the Strawberry Hill village plan – with nobody being excluded from anything.
“That said, given the strength of feeling expressed by the Strawberry Hill Residents’ Association, and the council’s commitment to listen to what local people say, we have looked at how we can take on the views of the association, while also giving those individual residents who may hold a different opinion a voice.
“We will therefore extend the village area shown in the village plans on the website to cover those streets which are within the area traditionally considered as Strawberry Hill.”
Chairman of SHRA Bruce Duff said he was very happy with the decision.
He said: “I think it’s common sense really because [the boundaries] have been established for more than 40 years and we distribute our bulletin throughout all these streets, so it would be a significant drop in our readership.”
