A businessman in Teddington has paid tribute to Margaret Thatcher, who died aged 87 after a stroke this morning.
Travel PR company director Doug Goodman, who first met the former Conservative Prime Minister during her time in office, said: “At a reception to celebrate Gibraltar’s history I had a long and fascinating chat with Lady Thatcher.
“When she found out that I worked in travel PR she asked me to recommend some hotels in Mallorca.
“It was a privilege to have met her and, during the Thatcher years, the support her government’s policies gave to small businesses was very valuable when I set up my PR company in Teddington.”
Known as the Iron Lady, she governed Britain from 1979 to 1990 and memorable, if not universally popular policies, included poll tax and privatisation.
