A woman who had cancer diagnosed on her 25th birthday is running the London marathon for the centre that provided her vital support.
Victoria Kibble, from north London, had chronic myeloid leukaemia in May 2007, which unsurprisingly took a toll on her, but it also left people close to her unsure what to do.
Miss Kibble said: “No one really knew what to say to me, I found friends and family unable to comprehend why I was ill. Their frustration in not being able to help me was clear and became quite upsetting for everyone.”
Now, 30, Miss Kibble aims to raise £3,500 for the Mulberry Centre, in West Middlesex Hospital, which she discovered while working as a podiatry assistant with the Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust.
She said: “I am running for the centre because it is my way of saying ‘Thank you’.
“It’s truly the most amazing charity designed to support all who need it. It is such an important part of our community. You only have to walk through the doors to see how great all the staff and volunteers are - all of whom helped me and many of my friends.
“With my continued fundraising, the Mulberry Centre can help many more people affected by cancer.”
