June Mabel Routledge
June Mabel "Judy" Routledge It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Judy Routledge, who died at her home in Roehampton on Sunday 6th August 2023, aged 95. Mum was a resident of the borough for more than 60 years, living first in Earlsfield and moving to Putney in 1966 on the day that England won the World Cup! Indeed, she and our father started their married life living in Kenilworth Court in Putney, overlooking the bridge & the river. Mum trained as a nurse in the 1950s and became a ward Sister at the Westminster Hospital and then as nursing Sister in the employ of Sir Richard Baylis, Physician to Her Majesty the Queen. Mum lived a rich and varied life including a career in general practice management, parent-run playgroup administration, school governance and as secretary of the Jane Austen Society (London). She was loving mother to four sons and caring wife to our father, Douglas, who died in 2009, yet still found time to be a Universal Aunt and escort children travelling on their own through London. Mum passed away peacefully in her sleep and will be sorely missed by all who knew her including; her brother & sister, sons, six grandchildren and numerous friends. The final farewell for our wonderful mother is planned for 6th September at Putney Vale Crematorium, Stag Lane, SW15 1DZ at 2pm. It is requested that, in lieu of flowers, charitable donations should be made to Age Concern (Wandsworth) or The Book Trust. Rest in Peace dear Mama, with all of our love; Nicholas, Timothy, Jeremy & Christopher Routledge.
