PEOPLE will be encouraged to try out cycling, walking, car sharing, public transport and river boats during Kingston's Good Going Week.

The week-long series of events which start on Wednesday are part of a London-wide campaign enticing people away from their cars and into the other forms of sustainable transport on offer..

The week kicks off with a Road Safety and Travel Awareness Treasure Hunt which can be enjoyed by both parents and children.

Using treasure maps available from schools and libraries, treasure hunters will find their way about the borough and learn about road safety at the same time. Entries will go into a prize-winning draw.

Penny farthings and Boneshakers will be among the many cycles in action on Thursday, when a Time Travel City Ride will take travellers back in time on a journey starting at Surbiton Station forecourt.

Travellers are invited to take a free morning cruise to and from work in Kingston. Several trips will be leaving from Hampton Court Station landing stage in the morning on September 17 and from the John Lewis Landing Stage in Kingston in the afternoon. On September 19, Kingston Walking for Health Scheme is organising a one-hour walk beginning at the bench over the Hogsmill River at the junction of Elmbridge Avenue and Raeburn Avenue, Tolworth.

On September 22, the campaign culminates in an In Town Without My Car Day when a range of musical and other community events will be held in the memorial square between the Market Place and Clarence Street.
