A raid on a Whitton pub that found crack cocaine has resulted in three men charged with drugs offences.

Drugs including crack cocaine seized in raid of Whitton pub the Duke of York

Crack cocaine, cocaine and cannabis were seized from The Duke of York in Hanworth Road in a raid by Richmond Police, a dog support team and officers from the Roads and Transport Command on December 18.

Afrim Lugjaj, 24, was charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Mark Alan Jones, 41, of Runnymede Road, Twickenham, and Joao Monteiro, 26, of Sandycombe Road in Feltham, were charged with possession of class B drugs.

One woman and five other men were arrested and were bailed to return to a police station in February.

Councillor for Whitton Grant Healy said this was not the sort of thing one would expect to see in Whitton.

He said: "I am glad the people responsible have been caught and I hope they are made a suitable example of.

"This is hopefully an isolated incident and Whitton does not have a wider drug problem. It should not give the impression Whitton isn’t a pleasant place to live because that would not be accurate."

A spokesperson from The Spirit Pub Company, which manages the Duke of York, said: "We are open and trading as normal.

“We have been working closely with the police to support their on-going investigations following their visit on 18 December."
