A procession of more than 200 children and 10 horses will parade to Hampton Court Palace.
The Horse Rangers’ Association’s annual foundation celebration march will this year take a new route from its headquarters at the Royal Mews, Bushy Park, to the palace.
Refurbishment works taking place on the main gates of Henry VIII’s red brick Tudor palace mean the procession will take a longer route along the A308 Hampton Court Road.
The troop will be led by 2nd Lieutenant Colyn Thomson of Squadron 1, and will turn left at the roundabout outside the palace, towards Kingston and into the grounds at Adams Gate.
The ceremony will include seven squadrons, a guest band from the 1st Hook Scout and Guides from Surbiton and the charity’s mascot, a Shetland pony called Prince Cameo.
The parade is to remember the founder of the Horse Rangers’ Association, Raymond Gordon, who started the group in Shepperton nearly 60 years ago.
He had a vision to enable young people, who would not otherwise have the opportunity, to learn to look after and ride horses.
His legacy lives on today, with more than 400 people attending each week, including those with special needs.
People are invited to watch the spectacle, due to start at 1.25pm on Saturday, March 2, and return at 3pm after a private service in the Chapel Royal.
Drivers are advised to find alternative routes during the parade.
